Macao is making strategic investments as it continues to pursue greater heights in MICE excellence.

Macao is quickly becoming one of Asia’s most compelling MICE destinations, powered by a bold, strategic vision that puts event excellence at the forefront. From world-class infrastructure and diverse entertainment options to certified event professionals and global partnerships, Macao is redefining what it means to deliver seamless, memorable business events that exceed expectations and set new standards of excellence.

A destination on the rise

It’s clear that Macao’s strategy to establish itself as a MICE destination of choice is paying offAccording to International Congress and Convention Association’s (ICCA) latest Country and City Rankings, Macao jumped from 20th to 14th place in the Asia Pacific region between 2023 and 2024 – its best-ever performance to date.

Macao is seeing a bustling business calendar in 2025, with several large-scale conventions and exhibitions lined up for the second half of the year.

The city is also gearing up for a busy 2025, with several major international trade events and association meetings in the pipeline. Upcoming highlights include:

•    The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Annual Conference (10-13 June, 500 pax)

Training MICE stars and shaping leaders

Macao’s rise is underpinned by a deliberate push to develop a highly skilled, future-ready workforce specialising in business events and exhibitions. Collaborations with international associations such as ICCA and UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) have introduced a steady stream of certified training programmes, leadership development workshops, and skills-building initiatives.

In collaboration with international organisations such as ICCA and UFI, Macao is offering training workshops and certificate courses to bring world-class knowledge and upgrade the skills of its MICE professionals.

In partnership with Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute of the Macao SAR (IPIM), ICCA runs international certification courses such as ICCASkills CICS and CICE, designed to strengthen the strategic and operational capabilities of Macao’s pool of event professionals. These certifications are highly valued marks of excellence, signifying expertise in business events, making graduate stand out to global stakeholders.

“I have witnessed the unwavering determination of Team Macao in elevating the overall capacity of business events, spanning government divisions to private industry,” says Waikin Wong, ICCA’s Senior Regional Director for Asia Pacific. “Organisations are keen on adopting a holistic approach to prepare staff across all levels and divisions with a comprehensive understanding of business events.”

An ICCASkills CICE course is scheduled for September, further enriching Macao’s talent development landscape and supporting its vision of becoming a global MICE hub.

The unwavering determination of Team Macao, from government divisions to private industry, has elevated the city’s overall expertise in hosting business events of any scale.

Meanwhile, UFI President Hugh Jones, observed Macao’s growing influence as a leading destination for exhibitions and conferences and affirmed UFI’s continued support. UFI will bring its globally accredited UFI-VMA Venue Management School to Macao in July, followed by the Exhibition Management School in October – two globally recognised programmes that are expected to raise the quality of Macao’s exhibition expertise.

Top-notch venues and unparalleled attractions

These training programmes are designed to align Macao’s event offerings with its overarching destination branding strategy. By positioning itself as a premier hub for MICE talent development and excellence, Macao can effectively showcase its unique cultural attractions and vibrant entertainment experiences.

State-of-art venues and tech-enhanced infrastructure round up the reasons why Macao is a choice destination for MICE planners.

Of course, talent alone isn’t enough – Macao’s rise as a world-class MICE destination is matched by serious infrastructure investment. A network of world-class venues, including new exhibition space, H853 Entertainment Place at Lisboeta Macau, joins a growing roster of high-tech facilities designed for large-scale international events.

These purpose-built venues are complemented by an impressive roster of accommodations. Set to open the first Capella Hotel in the Greater Bay Area is another worthy addition to Macao’s hospitality scene. The 17-storey hotel comprises 36 Sky Villas and 57 suites, joining the Galaxy Macau’s collection of nine high-end hotels under one roof to redefine the city's offering of ultra-luxury experiences.

Macao is also relying on its vibrant entertainment scene and unique historical landmarks to provide event delegates with unforgettable experiences beyond the conference room. One of Macao’s most popular residency shows, House of Dancing Water at City of Dreams, has made a comeback, featuring a dazzling new look, and more aerial and aquatic acrobatics that will surely ignite the audience's imagination. On the dining front, Wynn Palace has launched Gourmet Pavilion, where food lovers can embark on a culinary journey across Asia without leaving Macao.

Macao’s blend of rich cultural heritage and human capacity is one of its strongest assets as a rising MICE destination.

Looking ahead

Macao is aligning its strategy with a long-term vision to become a globally recognised MICE destination.

Adds Wong, “Macao’s unique value proposition, which includes cross-sectoral collaboration, geographical advantages, strong industry commitment, diverse professionalism and facilities, as well cultural richness, will continue to attract and contribute to global business events and association conferences.”

Whether you’re hosting a conference, exhibition, or incentive trip, the city is ready to deliver. Discover how Macao can elevate your next event at www.mice.gov.mo.
